Training Thoughts on PSP: #1

by Pelatih Andrew Ewing –

“Pencak Silat Pertempuran focuses on attribute development, adaptability, and understanding of timing ratio over technique to take advantage of dynamically changing positional relationships in a fight.”

Remember while training, practicing, or discussing any “so called” techniques that they are just one of many delivery systems PSP can use as training tools to build attributes.

I repeat again; remember these techniques are one of many; the techniques are secondary, they are PSP’s methodology for developing attributes with particular focus on spatial awareness, adaptation, and flow between constantly changing positions, all while stealing timing of a fight.

Early on in your PSP training avoid the temptation of collecting techniques, stick with PSP’s core basics at each level, they are there as aids for your identification of position, to create set points as markers or guides, allowing you to calmly in the chaotically changing fight act with self-control.

Include training drills to find these markers through changing positional relationships from your partner, including: multiple steps forward, multiple steps backward, steps with multiple partner strikes; from there expand upon with progression.

Neither the Techniques nor Individual Drills make up PSP, it’s the attributes you develop to Find you Positional Relationship, while adapting to stress, stealing timing, and acting, not reacting with Self-Control.

I hope this helps my PSP brothers on their individual Paths to expressing their Fighting Spirit.
